Monitoring how data drives change in Europe's food systems

The EU Monitor of the Data Economy for Food Systems helps policymakers, innovators, and businesses make evidence-based decisions for fair and sustainable food systems
About the monitor

Inside the Monitor

Explore the data economy across 9 dimensions β€” from actors and technology to law, skills, environment, and food system activities.

28 insights and 48 numbers

Why it matters

Data-driven innovation is reshaping Europe's food systems - but not evenly. Monitoring how data is created, shared and used helps identify strengths, gaps and opportunities. The Monitor supports fair policies, informed investment and collaboration across value chains.

A system that constantly grows and evolves to reveal new opportunities

The monitoring system consists of a user interface that visualizes the data economy for food systems through a dashboard with graphs and a dynamic map, but also a dedicated section for registered Data Sharing Initiatives.

As it grows it will be progressively enriched with data from more case studies and validated by stakeholders from even more data sharing initiatives. These stakeholders enrich our knowledge base with empirical material and contribute to the evaluation process, since they assess the state-of-play and validate expected impacts from their own specific context.
