Dimension: Social & ethics / Numbers

Food systems compose a central part of the global economy, are essential to feeding the population and play a major part in sustainability dilemmas. As such, the data economy for food systems entails, beyond techno-economic aspects, also a vast range of consequences for future human life with regards to fairness, justice, beneficence, labour contexts, inclusion, cultural tradition, and more.

The social and ethics dimension considers indicators such as the trust people place in technologies, the privacy of users, the accessibility and affordability of technologies and the gender balance in the data economy for food systems. Together, this mix of quantitative and qualitative indicators provide an overview of the influence of the data economy on society.
